An Update on “Add Flagged Photos” in iPhoto 09

January 11, 2010 in Tutorials by David Schloss 5 comments

In my mind, flagging an image in iPhoto is a way to select pictures that I want to act on. They might not be the best photos (those get higher star ratings) but they’re the photos I want to email someone or print or remember to caption or keyword later. As a result I’ve got a ton of images with flags—I think they’re very handy.

That’s why the Add Flagged Photos To Selected Event command is so strange to me.

Event Mode

When You’re in the Event mode all of your imports are grouped according to the date they were shot. We wrote about this back in December, where we used it to create a new Event (the Event you see highlighted in yellow.)

The Command

As a reminder, you simply select Add Flagged Photos to Selected Event under the Events menu to take flagged photos from one Event and move them to whatever is selected.

Here’s the odd thing we didn’t realize at the time—every single flagged photo in iPhoto is added to the selected event. Ouch. That means the folks at Apple expect flags to be turned off as soon as you’re done using them for your temporary need. That’s fine and all, but I don’t always do that. (After all, what harm does it do to have photo both three stars and flagged?)

So if you’re going to follow our advice, be careful, as you’ll move every single flagged photo with the use of this command.

It would be nice if you had the option in iphone to add flagged photos.

Forgive me if this isn’t the appropriate forum in which to ask this question, but I’ve been unsuccessful finding a solution. I’m a “semi-professional” photographer. Is there any way to put my name on my photos (iPhoto) so that when I post on Facebook, or elsewhere, if someone else uses my photos, they are identified as mine?
Thanks.

Seems like a cue to talk about watermarking.

This is EXACTLY what I did…and now I can’t undo it. : ( Do you know a solution of getting the flagged photos back into their original events??? Now they are all just in “Flagged Photos” and out of all of their specific events. I’m SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

You’re saying you were able to put your name ON the photo w/Flagging? I would make a duplicate before I tried it in the event is is irreversible.
