Canon PIXMA MX850 – Faulty or Faultless?

Here at the UK office of MacCreate, we bought a Canon PIXMA MX850 all-in-one to scan and print text (not to mention the occasional photo), after recommending it in one our reviews for a magazine (I forget which now). But today it stopped working faultlessly, indeed it stopped working at all, and even refused to power-on.

We changed the fuse (our UK plugs have built-in fuses) and swapped the position of the socket around on our Belkin extension lead, but all to no avail.

After leaving the printer unplugged (it has to be unplugged from the mains), the over-heating protection circuit in the built-in power adaptor reset, after cooling down. And we’re pleased to say it now works faultlessly again.

So, next time you have a ‘faulty’ printer or scanner, rather than return the item immediately, give it a few hours to rest and cool down. After all, we all deserve a well-earned rest from time-to-time, don’t we?

I have that same printer (US version) and love it. Haven’t had any issues yet, but appreciate the tip. Thanks!

Hey Mark

You’re welcome! We wanted to share this, as it’s a little known (and easily rectified) problem.
