New Event from Flagged Photo in iPhoto 09
iPhoto automatically groups images into Events based on the date of capture. That’s great, but many times it’s convenient to split photos into Events not based on time of capture, but based on things like subject matter. One of my favorite ways to do this is to flag photos and then create new Events based on the flagging.
An Event

This is an Event, it’s found under the Events icon on the inspector on the left of iPhoto. This event in our example is comprised of hundreds of images from a bike race sponsored by Mellow Johnny’s, Lance Armstrong’s bike shop. The race was actually comprised of many smaller races.
Flag Some Photos

In this case, I want to make an Event from the photos from the Under 13 races. I’ve selected the photos and flagged them. (You can flag an image via the icon on the bottom toolbar, from Photos, Flag Photos or by pressing Command-. (that’s Command and Period.)
Create an Event

From the Events menu, select Create Event From Flagged Photos
Create Warning

iPhoto will warn you that photos can only be in one Event at a time, which is the whole point of this exercise, so say Create.
Name Your Event

In the resulting page, you can name your Event by typing in the name field at the top of the Event.
View New Event

In the Events browser you can now find your new event.
